Why these body butters are different.

When I first began making body butters, I loved how natural ingredients could come together to make a really wholesome, product without using any chemicals. I did find them a little greasy though so on further research, I found that adding a starch could absorb some of the heavy grease and so this then became my base.

I live in a rural part of Wicklow and look out at the beautiful hedgerows and trees every morning. I thought, why not add them to my products thus connecting people back to the land the live on. This lead me back to revisit the work of Dr. Bach, who in the 1930’s discovered that wildflowers have a positive effect on our emotions and so, looking out at gorse, hawthorn and Scots Pines daily, I knew they carried energetic resonances that could bring this land medicine into my creams.

Every plant, animal, tree, wild flower carries a specific energetic resonance. Dr. Batch discovered these by making a tincture out of the plant material and trying them on himself and recorded the changes in his mental and emotional state. A brilliant piece of slow, methodical, intuitive based, body of work that is still with us today. There are also other energetic essences that are good for working with the challenging frequencies of today. That might be another project for me!

Hawthorn flowers and leaves used in my Hips & Haw Body Butter.

I gathered the gorse, hawthorn and Scots Pine and made each of them into a separate herbal oil. Turning them over six weeks to allow the properties, both physical and energetic to infuse with the oil. I then added them to each body butter and scented them with the smells I was drawn to.

For example, hawthorn in herbal medical might be one of the plants used when experiencing heart issues so I chose floral scents. Hawthorn tincture has a strengthening effect on the heart (used only under the supervision of a medical herbalist). But the heart if not just a physical organ. How can we explain love? Energetically, hawthorn aligns with boundaries of the heart. So, when you apply my hawthorn body butter, you will be helping to strengthen the energic heart. Small hurts and wounds when not healed can lead to bigger problems later on so while you are applying this cream, allow the magic of the hawthorn to melt these away for you or if you are taking on the world, let the hawthorn strengthen the love you have for yourself too.
